We are living in a culture of immediate gratification. As American culture continues its emphasis on Epicurean hedonism we attempt to find happiness in our things. This is of course a very logical end of materialism. However, the bible describes us as primarily spiritual beings made in the image of God so it is also very logical that materialism has never, nor can it ever, provide an adequate base for true happiness. As Blaise Pascal put it,"There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus."
